Operators that got a sportsbook license in Ohio and have not yet launched an offering now have until June 30, 2024 to do so.

Despite Ohio sportsbooks going live in January, many license holders have not yet launched their offerings. 15 such operators now have until June 30 to do so or they will potentially have to surrender their permits altogether.

regulator will decide on a case-by-case basis

The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) originally had a one-year deadline in place for licensee launches and has now voted in favor of a six-month extension. The regulator will decide on a case-by-case basis whether an operator can keep a license if they miss the new deadline.

The OCCC explained that some factors were outside of the control of operators, impacting their chances of identifying suitable partners and subsequently launching before the original January 1, 2024 cut-off. In one case, the Cleveland Cavaliers’s partner Fubo Gaming shuttered its betting operations in October 2022 and the NBA team has not yet found a replacement.

Ohio bettors currently can choose from 19 different online sportsbooks and 16 retail offerings.
