A cashier at the Monarch Casino in Blackhawk, Colorado carried out the biggest casino heist in state history. In an affidavit, a Colorado Division of Gaming investigator described surveillance footage which showed Sabrina Eddy taking bricks of cash worth $50,000 each from the casino cage vault on March 12.

She walked out of the property with the cash and drove away in her minivan. The 44-year-old then went back to the casino about an hour later to take more money. In all, Eddy grabbed $500,000.

Former Colorado Division of Gaming head Rom Kammerzell explained to local media that he had never heard of a bigger casino theft in the state since commercial gambling became legal in 1991.

Eddy reportedly claims she did nothing wrong. She said that she received a phone call from someone she thought was the casino’s head of operations who told her to withdraw the cash. The woman explained to investigators that she was led to believe that the money was needed to deal with an internal issue at the casino. She claims to have given the money to a man at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

The Colorado Division of Gaming will investigate the theft and try to figure out why Monarch Casino’s procedures and policies failed. Eddy is still in Gilpin County Jail, as she has not made bond.
