Wide-ranging deal

The NBA’s Detroit Pistons have named PointsBet the team’s newest sports betting partner. As part of this agreement, the sportsbook operator will get access to the team’s logos, marks, and IP in addition to different forms of brand visibility and sponsorship opportunities.?PointsBet tweeted out the news on Tuesday:

Former Pistons star Rip Hamilton has also come on board as a PointsBet brand ambassador. He was a part of the Pistons team that reached six consecutive Eastern Conference Finals, winning the NBA title in 2004.?

He will be the face of the sportsbook’s products in Michigan as the operator gets ready to launch in the state. Hamilton’s experience in basketball, as well as the Detroit and Michigan sports scenes, will give PointsBet a unique insight into how best to operate its offering in the region. 

An exciting partnership

Through this agreement, PointsBet will advertise on digital signage that will be visible during home game broadcasts at Little Caesars Arena. The operator’s branding will also be on the Pistons website, social media profiles, and mobile app. Sportsbook promotions will appear on some of these team channels during the course of the NBA season.?

PointsBet USA CEO Johnny Aitken spoke about the operator’s excitement for this partnership with the Pistons. He referred to the deal PointsBet signed with the Detroit Tigers in July and the goal to provide Michigan residents with a top-quality online sportsbook.?

PointsBet’s continual expansion

Online sports betting has not yet launched in Michigan, but retail operations have been up and running since March. Expectations are that state gaming regulators will give operators the green light to launch in the coming weeks. Some online sportsbooks are already allowing people to pre-register for accounts.

PointsBet was one of the first operators to sign a market access deal in the state. In January 2020, it announced a long-term agreement with the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. PointsBet also has the ability to launch an online casino through this 20-year deal.

The Australian-based operator has been busy signing deals with various sports teams and organizations. As well as its agreements with the Detroit Piston and Detroit Tigers, PointsBet has partnerships with the the PGA Tour, LaLiga North America, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, and the Denver Nuggets. It currently has sportsbooks in New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, and Colorado.
