Third launch in the US

theScore Bet, subsidiary of Score Media and Gaming Inc., has announced the launch of its sportsbook app in the state of Indiana. The app will offer a range of pre-game and in-play betting across all major sports leagues and events, with a variety of betting types.

the app will be powered by sportsbook platform provider Bet.Works

theScore Bet secured market access in Indiana through its multi-state access framework agreement with Penn National Gaming. The app will be powered by sportsbook platform provider Bet.Works due to theScore’s platform partnership with the company, signed in 2018.

Commenting on the Indiana launch, founder and CEO of theScore John Levy, said: “This launch comes just weeks after we introduced theScore Bet to fans in Colorado, a huge testament to the best-in-class technology, multi-state infrastructure, and product development team supporting our ongoing expansion.”

theScore’s multi-state expansion

The Indiana launch will see theScore Bet continue its multi-state expansion in the US. The app first launched in New Jersey last year after theScore received an investment of C$40m (US$30m) from Fengate Asset Management. Now, theScore Bet app is live in three states including Indiana. Earlier this month, theScore went live in Colorado through a deal with Jacobs Entertainment-owned Gilpin Casino.

According to Levy, the company is targeting the Colorado market with a unique approach, expressing a desire for organic growth by integrating betting with the company’s content and media arm. Rather than using sponsorships, commercials or media partnerships, the operator will be utilizing the popularity of its theScore sports media app to gain exposure in the state.

theScore’s 20-year framework deal with Penn National provides the sportsbook operator with market access to an additional 10 states, both for sports betting and online gaming. The operator demonstrated its desire to enter the online gaming market after signing a New Jersey partnership with Twin River Worldwide Holdings last month. The deal will see theScore launch its online casino offering in the Garden State in the latter half of 2021.

Indiana sports betting recovery

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sports betting operations in the US, Indiana’s market saw a strong performance last month. According to data from the Indiana Gaming Commission, sports betting handle reached $169m for August, a sharp increase of 139% month-on-month. Revenue also saw a significant rise of 48%, totaling $9.8m for the period.

basketball saw the highest handle at $55.2m

The recent recovery of Indiana’s sports betting market can be attributed to the return of most major North American sports leagues, such as the NBA and MLB. For August, basketball saw the highest handle at $55.2m, while baseball took the second spot with $31m wagered.

Online betting makes up the majority of sports wagering in the state of Indiana. For August, online betting handle amounted to $143.9m of the state’s total handle, while land-based operations generated just $25.1m. DraftKings dominated Indiana’s sports betting last month, generating just under half of the state’s total betting revenue, with $4.9m from $78.6m in bets. The sportsbook operator is partnered with Penn National Gaming’s Ameristar Casino in the Hoosier State.
