The Million Pound Drop

The Million Pound Drop Online Slot Machine

If there is one thing Endemol are great at, it is taking existing themes – particularly game shows – and turning them into entertaining slots. The Million Pound Drop is a great example of exactly this. There are two different bonus rounds based on the show, and some expanding wilds on the screen which give you the ability to bag a smaller windfall at any moment. This is all put together in a smooth and professional package and made available to play without a download.

Graphically, this slot feels a little retro. There is even a bulge the reels, mimicking the mechanical feel of older slots. Symbols fall into two main categories, money and playing cards. The piles of money come from the game show. Card symbols are a slots standard, in this case they are clean and bright without being anything special. The background to this slot shows floodlit area, which you will see more of during the ‘Security Pass’ bonus game. The audio does improve for the bonus games. Here you will get the full effects from the TV show.

The main bonus game is the ‘Drop’ part of the original game. Here you place money on trap doors, and hope that it does not fall through when some of them open. The other bonus is a free spins round with a pick-em preview, which involved catching money.

Setup and Play for The Million Pound Drop

This game uses the standard Endemol setup of 5 reels, 3 rows of symbols and 20 win-lines. You can choose how many lines to play, and bet from 1p per line up to $10. This makes the largest spin amount £200 and the smallest for all of the lines is 20p. You can use auto-play for up to 25 games if you wish.

Wilds give you the single biggest prize. If you hit 5 of the red wilds on a line, you will get 2500 times your coin amount. This also substitutes for any of the non-bonus symbols. There is a golden wild symbol in place which only appears on the middle reel. This will create 4 more wilds at random, before becoming a wild of its own. This is a nice touch for the in-reel play, as one of these will often bring you a decent sized windfall.

Of the regular symbols, the biggest pile of banknotes with yellow bands is the biggest prize symbol. These pay out 1000 coins for 5. The banknotes in red pay 500 for 5, purple 250 and blue 200. Playing cards ace through to jack make up the rest of the symbols.

The final symbols are two different ones which trigger the bonus games. There is a red ‘Drop Bonus’ sign which appears on reels 1, 3 and 5. The other one is a ‘Security Pass’ bonus symbol, which appears on the middle 3 reels only.

The Million Pound Drop – Bonus Games

Both of the feature games are fairly elaborate, with unique play and graphics (even though the fundamentals of this slot are reused for different themes).

The more complex round is the Drop Bonus, which can go on for up to 8 rounds. Here you get big piles of cash, which you have to place on 3 of 4 trap doors (one must always remain empty). You can choose to spread this evenly, or to put it all on one door, or use some combination in-between. Once the cash is placed, 3 of the 4 doors will open, and you get to keep the cash which is on the one that does not. If this is empty, that is the end of the round, if not, you get to go again. After 4 successful rounds, the number of doors goes to 3. You can play up to 8 times if you are lucky enough to avoid the empty trapdoors each time.

Security Passes allow you to enter a giant glass tube and catch banknotes in the real game. Online you simply need to click to catch the notes as they fall. Each one will add some free spins to your total, with the final catch adding a multiplier. You then go and start your free spins round. This looks very elaborate, though in reality it is just a pick-em game followed by the free spins.

The Million Pound Drop – Conclusion

Another solid and entertaining slot from Endemol. This one should certainly appeal to fans of the show, though it is playable enough in its own right – worth a spin even if you are not familiar with the gameshow. There is a little strategy involved, choosing how to spread your money for maximum gains in the ‘Drop Bonus’ game. If you only cover one door, then you can win more, though your chances of continuing are much lower. I choose to add a lot of money to one door, and put small amounts on the others to maximize the chances of playing the next round. All-in all a great slot, and one which I recommend that you check out soon.
